FOSTERING CATS
Fostering cats is very rewarding experience. Depending on the circumstances of each cat, fostering will be either long or short term. Long term is usually for a cat with special needs whereas short term is usually for a cat up for adoption. Both types of fostering enable us to free up much needed room to give to another needy soul.
The basic criterion is that a prospective fosterer must either have no other companion animals or if they do, then they must have a dedicated room in which the cat can stay. If short term, the cat must not be allowed outside.
If you match this basic criterion, please read on. Should you decide then that you are interested in fostering, please contact us. If you are accepted as a fosterer, both you and Cat Rescue will sign an agreement. Within this agreement are a number of undertakings for the fosterer and Cat Rescue. To summarise these are:
- For Cat Rescue to:
- Pay all agreed veterinary fees for the cat, which arise during the period of the agreement.
- Provide or pay for food and cat litter
- Support and advise the fosterer in all aspects of care and to maintain regular contact.
- For the Fosterer to:
- Give strict attention to feeding, grooming and general care of all cats and kittens fostered
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene
- Notify Cat Rescue of the need for routine or emergency veterinary attention and gain consent beforehand, transporting the animal as necessary. In normal circumstances the animal is to be treated at the St Annes Veterinary Clinic.
- Permit a representative of Cat Rescue (Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde) to visit at mutually convenient times.
- Permit prospective owners to visit at mutually convenient times.
- Hand over for homing any cat or kitten to a representative of Cat Rescue (Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde) or directly to the new owner.
- Report without delay any accident or illness.
PEPPA FINDS A NEW FOSTER HOME!
Peppa came to us seriously obese and eventually was allowed to live with John and Christine while she was monitored. After weeks of a strict diet and encouragement, her weight and fitness has gradually improved. We are delighted to report that she is was rehomed to a permanent fosterer in the last week of October.
LONG TERM FOSTERERS NEEDED FOR FAITH AND HOPE
Hope (the tabby) and Faith (the black) were thus named because we had faith enough to give them a chance and we hope it works! These are two possible leukemia kittens we have tested twice already and both have tested positive. We are waiting until four months have passed since the 1st test and then we test again. We will sadly have to accept it, if they test positive once more.
Several months on, they are doing well and Faith is almost normal. Hope is still a bit shy but both are very playful.
These two need a very special home with no other cats. THEY DO NOT HAVE TO BE REHOMED TOGETHER. We will pay all bills and will consider paying for an outside run for them as we would hate for them to spend all their lives in a pen. Important Note: We stress that feline leukemia can only be transmitted to other cats. All other animals (in which we include humans) and birds cannot catch it.
* SPECIAL APPEAL *
YOU CAN HELP SAVE A LIFE
There are so many stray and unwanted cats at present that all the catteries are full. So are the waiting lists.
Cat Rescue has always used fosterers for many reasons. Some cats can't cope being in a cat pen, some need special care, some need special TLC to help them overcome dreadful ordeals and some are just very old and we want their last few months to be in a loving and, at this time of the year, warm home.
Then some…well, some are given a short time to be re-homed or else…. These latter cases are the ones that are really worrying Cat Rescue. In the past two weeks we have been involved with three such cats. LUCKY is the latest one.
Lucky (as we have named him) is very lucky indeed to have been saved and we have managed to place him in a permanent foster home. Cat Rescue will provide his food, litter and any medical care needed.
So if you are interested in joining our fosterers campaign or want to help financially give us call on 01253 720357.
As we are all volunteers and there is no paid staff, the answerphone is always on but we do return calls until 6pm seven days a week.
